Did Con Edison tell you to call a plumber?

Did they ALSO tell you this…

1. A plumber has to file a gas permit with your local municipality.
2. A plumber must repair or replace any piping that is compromised.
3. A plumber must repair or replace any piping compromised from your main house valve to the meter. This is called extended service.
4. A plumber must repair or replace any piping compromised servicing the meter. This is called “Meter Piping” or “Head of Service” piping.
5. A plumber must cap off all gas appliances and possibly change your individual gas valves if they are graphite packed or not up to code. 
6. A plumber must run an initial test on all gas piping from your meter to every gas appliance outlet. If any piping fails, it must be repaired or replaced. 
7. A plumber must coordinate with your municipality inspector and pass an INTEGRITY TEST to obtain a BLUE CARD. This is required to have any meter turned on. 
8. A plumber may have to remove and replace existing dryer vent, flue pipe from your boiler/furnace/water heater and fireplace if it is gas fired. 
9. A plumber must meet with Con Edison on-site twice; once for an inspection and once for another gas test & turn-on.
10. While all that is taking place on-site, a plumber will be submitting approximately 6 or more affidavits via the Con Edison portal. All of the above must be completed before Con Edison comes back. 

ATTENTION - It is extremely important that customers experiencing a gas meter lock use an OPERATOR QUALIFIED TASK 86 & 87 company. Hiring a licensed plumber will not cut it. The elevated status is regulated by the Department of Transportation and requires companies to enroll in drug & alcohol testing, pay associated fees, and meet detailed requirements. Operator Qualified is a federal license.
